Ultimate New Zealand Holidays: Trekking, Wildlife & Stunning Scenery

New Zealand is an adventure traveller’s paradise, where every day brings a new landscape and experience. On the North Island, one of our highlights was hiking the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, a spectacular trek past volcanic peaks, steaming vents, and turquoise crater lakes. A word of warning — hiking boots are essential, especially if you don’t want a story like ours, let’s just say it has been dubbed it the “Toenail Trek”. Beyond the mountains, the Coromandel Peninsula and Bay of Islands offered some of the most beautiful beaches we’ve ever seen, with golden sands, clear waters, and hidden coves, while vibrant towns and rich Māori culture added colour and history to the journey.

On the South Island, we were amazed by towering alpine peaks, dramatic fjords like Milford Sound, and crystal-clear lakes. We even hiked glaciers and jumped into their waters — brrr! Whale watching, spotting penguins along the coast, and, for the brave exploring the adventure capital Queenstown, with bungy jumps, parachuting or a range of other adrenaline fuelled activities, make every day unforgettable. Hiking near Mount Cook and kayaking in Abel Tasman National Park added even more adventure and immersion in New Zealand’s pristine landscapes. Whether you choose to focus on the lush and volcanic landscapes of the North Island, the dramatic mountains and fjords of the South, or pick the highlights of both islands, New Zealand offers unforgettable experiences at every turn.
