Meet the Founder – Laura
From the age of eight, I dreamed of travelling to every corner of the world. By 22, I had began turning that dream into reality — and it did not disappoint.
Each journey has taught me that travel changes you: it makes you braver, more open, and more connected — not only to the world, but also to yourself. I’ve travelled solo, with friends, as part of a couple, and now with a young family. Every stage of life brings new perspectives, but the constant has always been my desire to explore far-flung corners of the world.
In 2014, a life-changing health experience put everything into perspective. I realised how important it is to live in the present, both in everyday life, and through the unique experiences travel offers. Back on the road, I saw the world with fresh eyes, embracing immersive adventures that foster meaningful connections.
Over the years, I’ve journeyed through Central and South America, East and Southern Africa, New Zealand, Australia, and Asia — hiking mountains, exploring deserts and jungles, encountering wildlife, and immersing myself in local cultures. Each adventure has added depth and perspective, shaping how I plan travel today.
By 2017, while coordinating travel logistics for an NGO in Kenya and later Rwanda, I realised my passion for travel extended beyond exploration — I wanted to help others create journeys that are seamless, authentic, and transformative.
Now, after 20 years of teaching, 25 years of countless adventures, one global pandemic, and raising two children, Kukula Travel has come to life. With strong family connections to Malawi and Southern Africa, I specialise in crafting unforgettable journeys across Africa. But with experience travelling the world, I would love to help you plan an extraordinary trip to any continent— creating authentic experiences, in unique locations with added personal touch to every adventure.
