Malaysia Travel: Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Borneo & Tropical Islands

Malaysia is a wonderfully diverse destination where vibrant cities, lush rainforests, and tropical islands combine with a rich blend of cultures. In Kuala Lumpur, modern skyscrapers rise beside historic temples and markets, with the iconic Petronas Towers dominating the skyline. The historic city of George Town on Penang Island is known for its colourful street art, colonial architecture, vibrant street food, and nearby beaches perfect for a seaside escape.

Across the South China Sea, Malaysian Borneo offers remarkable wildlife and rainforest adventures. In Sabah and Sarawak, ancient jungles are home to unique wildlife including orangutans, while the towering peak of Mount Kinabalu rises above one of Southeast Asia’s most biodiverse national parks.

Malaysia also boasts stunning beaches and islands. Langkawi features white sands, emerald waters, and pristine jungle-backed beaches — a dramatic tropical setting selected as a filming location for a new adaptation of Lord of the Flies. The Perhentian Islands are famous for crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs, and excellent snorkeling and diving, making them a paradise for marine life enthusiasts.

Malaysia’s food scene is a highlight in itself, reflecting Malay, Chinese, and Indian influences in dishes such as nasi lemak and roti canai, with laksa being my personal favourite. From cosmopolitan cities and colonial heritage to rainforest wildlife and idyllic islands, Malaysia offers a rich and varied travel experience.
