Mozambique Travel: Beaches, Remote Lake Niassa & Wildlife Safaris

Mozambique is one of Southern Africa’s most beautiful travel destinations, famous for its pristine coastline, white sandy beaches, coral reefs, and idyllic islands — perfect for snorkelling, diving, and relaxing by the Indian Ocean. On one of the remote sandbars, we snorkelled in the crystal-clear water and was amazed by the spectacular underwater scenery — a vibrant array of shells, starfish, fish, coral and giant conch shells — while dhows passed by, giving the feeling of being somewhere completely untouched. Inland, the little-explored Lake Niassa (Lake Malawi) offers serene escapes, remote fishing villages, and freshwater adventures far from the crowds.

Beyond the beaches and lakes, Mozambique is increasingly recognised for its safari experiences. Gorongosa National Park remains something of a little-known conservation success story — a park quietly rebuilding its wildlife populations after years of decline. Lions, elephants, and other iconic African species are returning to their historic ranges, offering a rare chance to experience a safari destination that still feels like a secret.

Mozambique combines vibrant coastal towns, secluded islands, remote freshwater lakes, and emerging wildlife reserves, making it ideal for travellers seeking a mix of relaxing beach escapes and adventurous safari experiences.
