Belize: Barrier Reefs, Rainforest and Culture
Belize is a compact country packed with adventure, combining Caribbean beaches, tropical rainforest, and ancient Maya ruins. English is the official language, making it easy to navigate, and its blend of cultures — Maya, Garífuna, Creole — gives the country a vibrant, colourful character.
On the coast, we stayed on Tobacco Caye, a tiny island surrounded by crystal-clear turquoise waters and coral reefs. Its powdery white sand, swaying palms, and quiet, unspoiled beaches make it feel like a true Caribbean paradise. Beyond the island, the coastline stretches in every direction with hidden bays, mangrove-fringed shores, and endless opportunities to snorkel or simply admire the sparkling sea and vibrant marine life. Belize offers a range of incredible options for island stays, each framed by the same stunning reef and calm, clear waters.
Inland, the Cayo District is a hub for rainforest exploration and Maya archaeology. Trails through the jungle lead to waterfalls, wildlife-rich areas, and lookout points where toucans, howler monkeys, and other tropical animals can be spotted. Nearby, the ancient ruins of Xunantunich and Caracol provide a glimpse into the Maya civilization, combining adventure with cultural discovery.
Belize is ideal for travellers seeking a mix of beach, jungle, and culture. Its small size means you can snorkel on the reef in the morning, explore rainforest trails in the afternoon, and unwind on the pristine beaches of the coastline in the evening — a seamless blend of nature, adventure, and beauty.
