Uganda Travel: Gorillas, Chimpanzees & Safari Adventures
Uganda, often called the “Pearl of Africa,” is a treasure trove of wildlife, lush landscapes, and adventure opportunities. One of my personal highlights was chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest National Park — hearing the chimps screeching through the dense canopy, tracking them on the forest floor, and finally seeing them behave in such human-like ways was truly astonishing. Visitors can also stop at Café Kibale, a community initiative that trains local young people in hospitality and has been recognised by the Wanderlust Green List.
While its mountain gorillas are not as famous as those in neighbouring Rwanda, gorilla trekking in Uganda is a highlight of any trip to the region, offering an incredible, accessible way to see these magnificent animals in their natural habitat. I have trekked gorillas in both countries, so I’m happy to discuss options depending on your priorities. In addition to gorillas, Uganda boasts abundant wildlife in parks such as Queen Elizabeth National Park and Murchison Falls National Park, where elephants, lions, hippos, and countless bird species roam across savannahs, wetlands, and dramatic riverine landscapes.
Uganda also offers vibrant urban experiences in Kampala, with a lively nightlife and restaurant scene. Its combination of gorilla and chimpanzee trekking, classic safaris, and community-focused experiences makes it a compelling destination for wildlife lovers and adventurous travellers alike.
